About Our Mathematics Programs

Aino Education Math ProgramsAino Education addresses most SAT math skills in 3 major movements. Our Abstract Reasoning course is designed to ameliorate student’s statistical analysis and problem solving skills. Our Algebra courses enhance understanding of statements of relations and the language of notation used to depict those relationships. Our Geometry course is designed to position students as masters of forms and their functions or properties.

Aino’s original math curricular platform provides the context needed to present students with specific word problems. For example, a text about cryptology may be used to provide the proper context for probability word problems and algebraic word problems that focus on codes and code breaking. These unique question environments emulate those found on the SAT and other standardized tests. Moreover, they encourage critical thinking by demanding application-based mathematics instead of rote memorization of formulas and solutions. In a world that increasingly values math literacy, parents and students can count on Aino to have the answer.

Another distinguishing trait of the Aino platform is its utilization of proven technology and materials to maximize retention and mastery of math concepts. Our relationship with Carnegie Learning allows us to provide clients with texts and software that are used in tandem with Aino’s math curriculum to support intended math outcomes.

Carnegie Learning: Our Strategic Partner

Carnegie Learning is leading a learning revolution. Founded by cognitive and computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University in conjunction with veteran mathematics teachers, Carnegie Learning has the courage to not only question the traditional way of teaching math, but is helping re-invent it.

Aino Education and Carnegie Learning have formed a strategic partnership that gives Aino’s private clients access to Carnegie’s Cognitive Tutor software suite and instructional texts. Aino math courses blend Aino’s inspired curricular design and progressive teaching practice with Carnegie’s innovative technology and unique expertise.

Aino’s relationship with Carnegie represents a $300 value that Aino math students will receive FREE of charge.

Moreover, Aino students will have access to the software 24/7 for 1 year, including additional online math support provided by Carnegie Learning. This extends the impact of Aino’s math instruction by giving both instructor and student a venue for practicing and experimenting with the concepts they investigated together during their session.

What makes Carnegie Learning unique:

  • Engages students directly in problem solving
  • Uses concrete, real-world scenarios
  • Makes use of informal student knowledge
  • Prompts a student to think abstractly, by converting situations into quantities and units
  • Students work with multiple representations of a problem
  • Scenarios appeal to students of all abilities and learning styles
  • The Solver encourages students to express the problem numerically
  • The Grapher displays the problem graphically in a coordinate plane
  • The Worksheet prompts students to convert word problems to mathematical expressions
  • Delivers on screen, step by step instruction for each software unit
  • Students can see and engage in examples that promote a conceptual understanding of the problems being solved
  • The ability to build a custom curriculum to meet the needs of individual students
  • Units can be re-ordered, added and deleted, and new sequences can be named and published for use in the classroom
  • Delivers pre- and post-tests that automatically tie to custom-sequenced curricula
  • The pretest may be configured to be diagnostic, in which case results are used to set pacing for students in the instructional software
  • Hints are contextual and oriented towards helping the student to solve key steps in the problem
  • Immediate feedback enables the student to self-correct and leads to more effective learning and applying of the mathematics
  • The program recognizes the most common student errors and responds appropriately
  • As a student becomes more proficient in a skill, the bars on the Skillometer increase in length and turn gold, indicating mastery
  • Teachers can view an immediate snapshot of each student's progress
  • Students receive a dynamic, strong motivator to succeed
24/7 Help
  • Provides one-on-one online tutoring for at-risk students
  • Certified tutors for all of our curricula

Aino Education Cognitive tutorCognitive Tutor

Intelligent mathematics software that adapts to meet students’ needs.

Based on over 20 years of research into how students think and learn, the Cognitive Tutor software was developed around an artificial intelligence model that identifies weaknesses in each individual student's mastery of mathematical concepts. It then customizes prompts to focus on areas where the student is struggling and sends the student to new problems that address those specific concepts.

Research has shown that students using Cognitive Tutor Algebra I.

  • Demonstrate an 85% better performance on assessments of complex mathematical problem solving and thinking
  • Achieve 15-25% better scores on the SAT and Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test
